This Week I Learned

  • Seems obvious in hindsight, but using @here in Slack will only notify people in the channel who are online (whereas @channel just notifies everyone).

  • You may not think you know what a "Trigram for heaven" is, but you likely see it all the time. It's your friendly neighbourhood "hamburger menu" icon: ☰ http://mcdlr.com/8 (there's a taoism shaped black hole there too if you were to start looking further into the meaning of it). Props to my friend Tyron for this one.

  • There's a spin-off "Bake Off: The Professionals" series (currently in its 4th season).

  • Peanuts are not nuts, but legumes:

    Peanut - Wikipedia

As a legume, the peanut belongs to the botanical family Fabaceae; this is also known as Leguminosae, and commonly known as the bean, or pea, family. Like most other legumes, peanuts harbor symbiotic nitrogen-fixing bacteria in root nodules. This capacity to fix nitrogen means peanuts require less nitrogen-containing fertilizer and improve soil fertility, making them valuable in crop rotations.
